Winter promises to be sweet

Spring 2017 was a critical for Ukrainian fruit and berry market due to the bad weather. During the first eight months the gross yield of fruit and berry products increased by 8% to 23.7 thous. tons compared with the same period in 2016.

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, during the eight months of 2017 the total harvest of fruit and berry products in Ukraine increased by 1.4% to 592.7 thous. tons compared with 2016. The share of gross yield by enterprises amounted to 4% at the level of 23.7 thous. tons.

In 2016, the products sales volume decreased by 27.8% to 246.9 thous. tons compared with 2013. However, taking into account the statistics of the last seven months, market players can expect the growth by the results of this year. Thus, during seven months of 2017, enterprises sold 77.4 thous. tons fruits and berries that is 13.8% more compared with last year’s figures in 68 thous. tons.

From 2015 to seventh month of 2017, the average annual growth of sales was 3.5%, while prices grew at an annual average rate of 8%.

Over the past three years, the prime cost of fruit and berry production in Ukraine increased by 40.3% annually. Berries by 3.2%, grapes - 19.9%. This situation is due to the frequent changes in the exchange rate, the high cost of plant protection products and the logistics services.

The results for 2017 can be obtained closer to the end of autumn, when the owners will finish harvesting all fruits and berries and have the financial results.
