According to the State Customs Service, in January-June 2020 export of nitrogen fertilizers (UKTZED code 3102) amounted to USD 142.9 million, while import was USD 87.9 million. Therefore, export exceeded import by 63%.
Even more indicative is a situation in June 2020, when export of nitrogen fertilizers reached USD 56.1 million and import dropped to USD 4.2 million.
Data provided by the Customs Statistics show that the Ukrainian producers of nitrogen fertilizers are competitive not only in the Ukrainian market but in the world market as well.
These data justify the decisions made by the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade of Ukraine (ICIT) concerning non-application of quotas for mineral fertilizers import.
‘UCAB has repeatedly submitted official letters to the ICIT informing that liberalization of gas market, reduction of its cost as well as expensive logistics in import make import quotas economically meaningless. Foreign trade data confirm our rightness and correctness of the decision made by the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade not to restrict supply of mineral fertilizers to Ukraine’, commented Roman Slaston, Director General of UCAB.
