Ukrainian and Russian agrarians appeal own governments for cancellation of exports duties for sunflower
The offer of the Russian Grain Union to the government of Russia to cancel export duties for sunflower indicates about the accuracy and timeliness of the similar offers of Ukrainian agrarians, declared Eugene Leng, the general director of Ukrzernoprom Agro Ltd., on November 12.
As a reminder, several weeks ago large-scale Ukrainian sunflower growers attracted attention of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy to the necessity of cancellation of export duties for the oilseed till the end of 2008/09 MY. According to the general director of Ukrzernoprom Agro Ltd., the Ministry of Agrarian Policy supported the offer and to date works at the appropriate law for the decision.
Both Ukraine and Russia have very monopolized processing markets, where limited number of participants dictates their will. In this season, such terms will cause clear losses of farmings. But temporary cancellation of export duties will create alternative demand for agrarians, E.Leng said.
Ukrzernoprom Agro Ltd. unites over 30 agricultural companies in 12 oblasts of Ukraine. The holding rents over 100.000 ha of lands. This year, the company sowed 59.000 ha with winter crops, including 20.000 ha of winter rapeseed.
