Ukraine: Ministry of Agrarian Policy considers state of 99% sowings as good
About 99% of all sowings in Ukraine are in good state, reported Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Sergey Melnik.
He also noted that harvesting of winter crops may begin since June 20.
S. Melnik confirmed grain yield forecast at the level of 40 mln tonnes. At that, according to him, grain export would total 13 mln tonnes, including 8 mln tonnes of wheat, while the total yield of this crop is expected at the level of 19 mln tonnes.
Deputy Minister reported that next season the prices for grain most probably will remain at the high level.
As it was earlier reported, for 2008 yield Ukraine sowed 8 mln ha under winter crops for grain, up 16% as compared to 2007.
According to the estimates of Ministry of Agrarian Policy, this year Ukraine's wheat yield would total 19.113 mln tonnes, barley - 8.979 mln tonnes, maize for grain - 9.085 mln tonnes, rye - 0.932 mln tonnes and other grain -1.9 mln tonnes. Grain export from Ukraine in 2008/09 season is forecasted at the level of 13.5 mln tonnes, including wheat - 8.7 mln tonnes.
