Ukraine: disaster in Western region won't appreciably damage total harvest
In 2008 grain croppage in Ukraine will stay at level of earlier forecasts, despite weather disaster in Western region of the country, declared Julia Timoshenko, Prime Minister of Ukraine, on July, 30.
According to J. Timoshenko, to date Ukraine harvested 23.4 mln tonnes of grain or 50% of planned volume. Prime Minister called such results as optimistic.
Due to unsatisfactory work of local authorities and presence of monopolistic traders in some regions, grain purchasing price decreased to 800-900 UAH/t (172-194 USD/t). declared J. Timoshenko.
According to Prime Minister, the government should invest 1.12 bln UAH (241 mln USD) to Agrarian Fund for grain purchasing to improve existing situation.
