Ukraine: considerable increase of winter wheat total yield is expected
In 2008, in Ukraine, considerable increase of total yield of winter wheat is expected, that traditionally covers the main share of wheat production (90-95%), according to the report of IA "APK-Infrom" analyst Anastasia Ivasenko at the conference "Grain Forum 2008".
According to the expert's data, the harvesting area of winter wheat would total some 6.4 mln ha. The productivity would increase to 29.5 c/ha, therefore total yield of winter wheat would total some 18.9 mln tonnes against 13.2 mln tonnes in 2007.
Taking into account spring wheat, the total sowing area under wheat for 2008 yield may total 7 mln ha, up 12% as compared to the last season. At the average productivity of 29.1 c/ha, the total yield of winter and spring wheat in 2008 may total 19.7 mln tonnes in clean weight, up 42% as compared to 2007, reported A. Ivasenko.
Following the total wheat offer, level of its consumption and the yield forecasts, wheat export potential from Ukraine in 2008/09 season may total 6.5 mln tonnes.
According to the expert's opinion, next season, the main direction of the Ukrainian wheat export remains the main buyer of the Black sea grain- region of North Africa and Middle East (Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and other).
