Announcement “Ukraine’s Export Potential for Biotechnological Feed, Fiber, and Fuel Crops: Using Brazil and Argentina Experience” with Dr. Clive James, world’s most famous researcher of biotechnological crops

YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND the round table “Ukraine’s Export Potential for Biotechnological Feed, Fiber, and Fuel Crops: Using Brazil and Argentina Experience” with Clive James, Doctor of Agrarian Sciences, world-famous scientist, a guru in biotechnological crops research, as a guest speaker.Dr. Clive James is the author of the internationally-recognized Annual Reviews on the Global Status of Biotechnological Crops, and their contribution to global food, feed, fiber, and fuel security, since 1996 when biotechnological crops were first commercialized.

Other speakers (invited): Marin Velchev, Regulatory and Scientific Affairs Director of Monsanto East Europe.

A discussion with the participation of representatives of the largest international companies and investment funds who work in Ukraine, Ukrainian agrarian holdings, and mass media will take place during the round table. At the time when the Earth’s population continues to grow thus increasing demand for energy resources and animal feed, can Ukraine be a major contributor to the solution of the scarce resources problem? This and other issues related to non-food biotechnological crops will be discussed.

Organizers:         The event is organized by the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC), with the support from Association of Cell Biologists and Biotechnologists of Ukraine, SigmaBleyzer, and Association “Ukrainian Agribusiness Club” (UCAB).

Key Speaker Biographic Note:

Dr. Clive James received his PhD from Cambridge University (UK). In 1990, Dr. James founded International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA), a not-for-profit charitable organization, established to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and the acquisition and transfer of crop biotechnology applications from the industrial countries, for the benefit of resource-poor farmers in the developing world. The mission of ISAAA is to alleviate hunger and poverty in the developing countries.

Prior to his association with ISAAA he was Deputy Director General at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Mexico, where he worked with the late Dr. Norman Borlaug, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who was the founding patron of ISAAA. The last twenty-five years have been spent living and/or working in the developing countries of Asia, Latin America, and Africa and devoted to agricultural research & development issues, and crop biotechnology. 

 

He has served, as Senior Agricultural Adviser to the Canadian Bilateral Aid Agency (CIDA), the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and has consulted for many international development agencies including United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and many international philanthropic foundations, including the Rockefeller and Hitachi Foundations.
