Market demonstrates chocolate & candies production descent

Based on data of the State Service of Statistics of Ukraine, during first four months of 2016 production of chocolate and candies has decreased by 9% comparing to the same period in 2015. This is a result of considerable price increase of this product type and revision of consumption budget by the customers.

During Jan-Apr of 2016, Ukrainian entities have produced 83.5 k tons (8.7 k tons less than in 2015). In 2015 2.16 kg was produced per one citizen and 1.95 – in 2016.

During four months of 2016 the market has shown decrease of chocolate and other products with cacao content export by 19% from 42.4 M USD in Mar-Apr 2015 to 34.3 M USD in 2016. Thus, volume of this product type in 2016 has reached 15.7 k tons. Major Ukrainian export destinations are Kazakhstan (14.3%), Georgia (9.4%) and Moldova (7.7%).

At the same time, import of chocolate and candies has decreased during first four months of 2016. Traders has imported 4.2 k tons of chocolate (26% less than previous year). Chocolate import accounted in money has decreased by 13% and reached 19.9k USD.

More than a half of imported volume was supplied from Poland, Germany and Netherlands. In the overall, mentioned countries have supplied 65.7% of chocolate and other made of it products.

Generally, Jan-Apr 2016 overall demand (production, export and import volumes) of chocolate and candies has decreased by 9%, comparing to the same time period in 2015.
