In 2019 agri-food export from Ukraine amounted to USD 22.2 billion that is 19% more than in 2018. Import of the specified products over the same period last year increased by 14% as well amounting to USD 5.7 billion. In general, foreign trade balance of agri-food products totalled USD 16.5 billion indicating that Ukraine is a net exporter of these products.
Export of agricultural products occupies a significant share in the structure of trade. In 2019 the share of agri-food products in the structure of total export from Ukraine amounted to 44% (comparing to 39% in 2018), whereas in the structure of import the share constitutes 10% (comparing to 9% in 2018).
In the commodity structure of export, supplies of crop products from Ukraine increased the most by 31% or USD 3 billion. It should be noted that the share of export of crop products in terms of total structure of agri-food export is 58%. The growth of crop production was stipulated by 49% or USD 1.7 billion increase in corn export. Export of finished food also increased by 7% or USD 202.9 million. Supplies of soybean meal increased the most in this category - by 89% (USD 143.9 million).
In the commodity structure of import, procurement of finished goods rose by USD 279.4 million (12%) due to procurement of tobacco and bakery products. Import of crop production increased by USD 265.9 million (17%) as well owing to import of potato and citrus, import of livestock products grew by USD 153.5 million (17%) due to procurement of cheese, frozen and fresh (chilled) fish.
