Russia: spring grain crops are sowed almost on 40% of the planned area
According to the Press-Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, as for May 4, the spring crops are sowed at the area of 17.3 mln ha (35.2% from the plan), up 5.1 mln ha as compared to the analogous data of 2007 and up 6.4 mln ha as compared to the average sowing area in the recent years. The spring grain crops sowing is conduсted at the area of 11.7 mln ha (37.8% from the plan) or up 3.8 mln ha as compared to the last year.
In total, during the week the country sowed 5.4 mln ha of the agricultural crops. Currently, in the Central Federal District the spring crops sowing is conducted at the area of 4.8 mln ha (61.3% from the plan), in the South Federal District - 4.5 mln ha (58.3% from the plan), Privolzhsk Federal District - 7.4 mln ha (53.1% from the plan).
The Central, South and Privolzhsk federal districts conduct sowing of maize for grain and have already sown 932.600 ha (50% from the plan) against 729.600 ha in 2007.
