Import of pork is reduced by 36%
Due to the information of Custom service of Ukraine, during January – July 2016 import of pork in dollar value reduced by 36% to 3, 3 M USD, compared to the same period in 2015 (5.1 M USA). In natural volume the amount of purchases of these products from abroad increased by 5.3% and amounted to 2.3 thousand tons. In the first 7 months of 2016 the average price of imported pork fell to 40%.
The main supplying countries for the first 7 months became EU countries: Germany – sharing 48.8% of imported pork by 1.6 M USD. US, Poland - 20.2% (0.7 M USD) and the Netherlands - 16, 6% (0, 5 M USD). In total, all of these three leaders supplies to Ukraine 85.6% of pork.
Indeed, Ukraine, according to the terms of the DCFTA, established a tariff quota for tax-free import of pork from the EU between Ukraine and the EU. According to DFS, starting from September 1, 2016 the countries of EU had used 22.2% of tax-free quota for the supply of these products, it means that 2.2 thousand tons were imported within the quota (initial quota - 10 000 tons, the remainder - 7 777 tons).
