Alfred C. Toepfer International (Ukraine) LLC today announced that it is the first Ukrainian company to be certified for sustainable biomass per the EU-approved International Sustainability and Carbon Certification System (ISCC).  The independent certification body PCU Deutschland GmbH certified Alfred C. Toepfer International (Ukraine) LLC, its suppliers and service providers.

Beginning in January 2011, only certified sustainable grains, oilseeds and biomass will be permitted for bio-energy use in the European Union.

“The cooperation between agricultural producers and Toepfer International Ukraine has clearly shown that Ukrainian products can comply with the high standards of the European Union, and that Ukraine can remain a major supplier of high-quality agricultural products,” said Ludwig Striewe, deputy general director Alfred C. Toepfer International (Ukraine) LLC.  “The demand from the EU biofuel sector has been a major driver for oilseeds and increasingly, for grain production in Ukraine, which has significantly benefited Ukrainian farmers.”

The ISCC sustainable biomass certification process requires proper documentation from all parties involved, coordination and oversight of the value chain and trustful business partners. To better understand these requirements, the International Conference on Sustainability of Biomass and Biofuels, organized by the Ukrainian AgriBusinessClub on November, 30 2010 in Kiev, will bring together all the different partners in the value chain, including Alfred C. Toepfer International (Ukraine) LLC, and will offer information on the certification process to all interested parties.
